A 65-year-old man was fatally hit by a car while crossing a road in his hometown of North Bay Shore.
Suffolk County police said Marty Karl was crossing Manatuck Boulevard when he was struck by a Volkswagen Jetta north of Hemlock Drive at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.
The victim was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead. The driver was not injured.
Third Squad detectives impounded the car and are continuing the investigation.
