As 2016 draws to a close, we here at the Gold Coast Arts Center are already deep into 2017 with plans for art exhibits, film screenings and celebrity events, concerts, theater, special talks with great people, classes for children, programs for adults and all the exciting, stimulating and thrilling things that make life richer and more meaningful. And, we are right here on the North Shore. You don’t have to go to Manhattan. We bring new films to the community through our Gold Coast International Film Festival each November and also through our Gold Coast Film Series, offered multiple times each month throughout the year. There are artworks to be made and to be viewed, voices to be heard or expressed, instruments to be played and dancing to be done. It’s all waiting here for anyone with the desire to learn a new skill or refine a rusty one.
Educators have begun to recognize that the best problem solvers are the creative thinkers—the ones who think outside of the box in order to invent and imagine new solutions, new products, even a new world. And it’s never too late to start exercising that creative side of your brain. It’s also never too early. For that reason, our School for the Arts is open seven days a week for everyone.
The arts have always been a significant part of my life and way of thinking; an aid and a solace, a source of inspiration and joy. I advocate for arts education, increased attendance at performances, screenings, exhibits and lectures that can expose us to ideas and images that will raise our awareness of the world and possibly increase our appetite for engaging with the world in a positive and courageous way.
Come to the Gold Coast Arts Center and participate in the sparkling opportunities in art, music, dance, theater and film that we offer here. Many of our programs are free to the public and we always look forward to sharing what we do here with visitors, students, art lovers and those who would just like to try something new.
