A man suffered burns while trying to save his 70-year-old father, who died after being trapped in an Elmont house fire early Saturday morning, authorities said.

Nassau County police officers and Elmont Fire Department firefighters responded to the blaze on Dutch Broadway at 12:10 a.m., authorities said.

A 31-year-old man who escaped the home unsuccessfully tried to save his father, who was trapped by the fire while in an upstairs bedroom, police said.

After subduing the flames, firefighters pulled the unconscious man from the home and initiated CPR. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Firefighting extinguished the flames with the help of the Lakeview, Franklin Square, Valley Stream and West Hempstead Fire Departments.

One Elmont firefighter was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor burns to his upper legs and the surviving victim was hospitalized after suffering from minor smoke inhalation.

The name of the man who died in the fire was not immediately available.

Arson Bomb Squad detectives are continuing the investigation into the exact cause of the fire, but it has been deemed to be non-suspicious in nature.
