A Roosevelt couple was arrested for whipping their 8-year-old son with an electrical cord after a teacher found open wounds on the victim’s back and arms, Nassau County police said.
The boy’s father, Olufemi Faniyi, 32, and his 30-year-old mother, Oluwafeyi Faniyi, were each charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
First Squad detectives said the couple whipped their son to discipline him for misbehaving at their Mirin Avenue home.
Police did not disclose the name of the school where the teacher discovered the wounds. The child was taken to a local hospital for treatment and was released to a family member.
The couple was arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
