Sam Dillon Quartet to Perform Jazz Standards

Sam Dillon and his quartet will perform jazz standards at the Main Library.

Great Neck’s own Sam Dillon and his quartet will perform a concert of jazz standards on Sunday, March 26, at 2 p.m. in the community room of the Main Library, with a 15-minute intermission. Dillon is a saxophonist, woodwind player, bandleader, composer and teacher. When he was 14, he played with legendary trombonist Al Grey. Dillon’s noteworthy performances include The Joe Chambers “Moving Pictures” Jazz Orchestra at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola and The Artie Shaw Jazz Orchestra. He also appears as a sideman on nine commercially sold recordings and has made several appearances for two HBO TV series. In 2013, Dillon was selected as one of 13 semifinalists in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition, where he performed at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC. In 2015, Dillon was selected as the saxophonist for The Juilliard Jazz Artist Diploma Program. He has more than 10 years of teaching experience as both a private teacher and as an adjunct faculty member at several schools. Areas of study include saxophone, clarinet, flute, harmony and jazz improvisation. Dillon has also instructed several music workshops for schools and summer programs as a special guest clinician.
