The Community Church of Great Neck (CCGN) hosted its 2017 Easter Egg-stravaganza at Jonathan L. Ielpi Firefighters Park on Grace Avenue on Saturday, April 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. During the fun-filled event, children found more than 5,000 eggs filled with treats, had their faces painted and took turns making their way through the obstacle course as they munched on snacks from goody bags and boogied to the DJ’s music. Plus, a handful of lucky little ones found special golden eggs and won impressive prizes.
Located at 2 Stoner Ave., CCGN celebrated its 100th anniversary just two years ago.
“The Community Church of Great Neck was always a church for the community,” said Pastor Steve Na, who’s been leading the congregation’s services in English for the past seven years. “It became a Chinese church, but I’ve brought it back to the entire community.”
Separate services are now conducted in Mandarin, Cantonese and English, welcoming every member of Great Neck’s diverse community.
Na is actually Korean, but he grew up in Georgia and doesn’t speak Korean. Since he’s been leading the English services, the pastor said that families from Great Neck’s growing multiethnic community have begun joining his congregation, including many of the young families on the peninsula.
Throughout the festivities, volunteers sported Awana T-shirts from the church’s youth group, which meets on Friday evenings for Bible stories, singing and recreation. CCGN will be holding services throughout Holy Week. For more information, visit www.ccgnny.org or call 516-342-3083.
