The Manhasset Community Fund (MCF) has for 71 years gathered and provided grants to support the organizations that provide vital services to the Manhasset community. Under the direction of Iliza Bartels and John Morris, who are copresidents of the MCF, the group reviews applications and awards grants to provide much needed monies to key community organizations which support the area.
The mission of the Manhasset Community Fund is to bring needed support and services to the residents of Manhasset through raising funds for the charities that serve the residents of Manhasset.
The Manhansset Community Fund also serves, from time to time, as a source of funds for emergencies facing those charities.
On Friday afternoon, June 16, the 2017 recipients were invited to Greentree, the Whitney estate, to enjoy a tour of the estate and receive their award. The applications are scrutinized with care by the MCF Board and determinations are made as the size of the grant. This year recipients are:
• Adventures in Learning—safe afterschool educational care
• Child Abuse Prevention Services (CAPS)—bullying and harassment education
• Great Neck-Manhasset Community Child Care—training for local preschool educators
• Literacy Nassau—programs to support literacy
• Manhasset Community Coalition Against Substance Abuse (CASA)—support for substance abuse programs and information
• Manhasset Student Aid Association—college scholarships
• Manhasset Women’s Coalition Against Breast Cancer—support for women with breast cancer
• Manhasset/Great Neck EOC—program for low-income youth and families
• Nicholas Center for Autism—
supporting autistic children and adult programs
• North Shore Child & Family Guidance—restore emotional health for children suffering crisis
• PASE—computer application courses for children with special needs.
• Safe Center—helping those affected by domestic violence
• Science Museum of Long Island—special programs for children
• SEPTA—programs for special needs
A special board was installed on the green at Mary Jane Davies Park on June 19.
