Comedy came to Carle Place last week, as comedians Adam Sandler and Chris Rock filmed a scene for an upcoming movie at Tuxedo Park.
Camera equipment, lights and trailers could be spotted outside the Carle Place suit shop, which soon drew the attention of local residents, professionals and passers-by. Kelly Bartscher said she’s been a fan of Sandler’s since his Saturday Night Live days and when she heard the Brooklyn-native was just a few minutes away from her workplace, came down to catch a glimpse of the action.
“I was so excited. We heard he was going to be filming on Long Island but didn’t know where,” said Bartscher, who cited Grown Ups and Happy Gilmore as among her favorite movies. “He’s just naturally funny, he doesn’t try. Everything from his laugh to facial expressions, is funny.”
Approximately a dozen children were among those in the crowd of fans. After the shoot, Sandler came out to take photos with the young fans, and give out some high-fives.
“I like how all his movies are comedy and I like his sense of humor. I like how he’s a really good actor,” said Carle Place’s James Birong, who said his favorite Sandler movie was You Don’t Mess With the Zohan.
The filming took place inside the shop, and several cast members dressed in tuxedo jackets could be seen walking around the set outside.
According to Deadline.com, the scene was for Sandler’s upcoming Netflix comedy The Week Of, about the days leading up to a wedding in which Sandler’s character’s daughter marries the son of Rock’s character. Filming is expected to continue throughout Long Island the next couple of months. The film is slated to come out in 2018.
