Teenage cast members and production staff are rehearsing for the Levels Teen Center’s summer musical, Fiddler on the Roof.

While they last, free tickets are available for the Levels Teen Center’s Summer 2017 theater production of the classic musical Fiddler on the Roof. Performances will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 10 to 12, at 8 p.m. in the Levels Teen Center in the lower level of the Great Neck Main Library at 159 Bayview Ave.

Established in 1974, Levels, the library’s cultural center for teenagers, presents several fully staged theatrical productions each year, which are directed, produced and performed by students in seventh grade through college.

Fiddler on the Roof is set in the Russian-Jewish village of Anatevka in 1905, where everyone lives according to the traditions of the past. But times have begun to change. Tevye, the hardworking dairyman, must decide what to do when his daughters wish to marry for love rather than have the village matchmaker choose their husbands for them. Tevye and his neighbors must redefine themselves and find a place in this new and different world, where their existence feels as shaky as, well, a fiddler on the roof. The score by Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock is filled with Broadway standards including “Tradition,” “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were a Rich Man,” “Do You Love Me?” and “Miracle of Miracles.”
