Joshua A. Lafazan, who at 23 is poised to be Nassau County’s youngest-ever elected legislator, is set to hold a ceremonial swearing-in this Tuesday, Jan. 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the Jericho High School auditorium, 99 Cedar Swamp Rd, Jericho, NY 11753. Lafazan will be joined by a elected officials including Nassau County Executive Laura Curran and Nassau County Comptroller Jack Schnirman, former Democratic Congressman Steve Israel, Phil Boyle (NYS Senator-R, District 4) and Dan Serota (Mayor-R, Village of Brookville).

Swearing in Lafazan will be his mentor, New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.

There is symmetry between the careers of DiNapoli and Lafazan. In 1972, Tom DiNapoli became New York’s youngest elected official upon his election to the Mineola School Board. This record was then bestowed upon Lafazan, who, at 18 years of age, won a seat on the Syosset School Board of Education in 2012 with 82 percent of the vote.

Lafazan will roll out his legislative agenda for his first term in the legislature, which will include a package of bills targeted at fighting the heroin and opioid epidemic throttling Long Island.

This event is a ceremonial swearing in. All of the Nassau County Legislators will be officially sworn in at a ceremony this Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at 10 a.m. at the Cradle of Aviation Museum.
