Port Washington adult volunteers were honored at the Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s Annual Adult Awards Recognition Ceremony at Long Island University on March 18.
Maria Casey and Caroline Gatto-Huszar were awarded the Girl Scout Appreciation Pin for their volunteer work chairing the Girl Scout Sweetheart Dance for the past five years. Diana VonRoeshlaub was also awarded the Appreciation Pin for her development of a Girl Scout Garden with a partnership with Plant-a-Row for the Hungry.
“Nothing is more satisfying to me than creating opportunities for and with children,” said VonRoeshlaub. “Through Girl Scouts, children and young women can discover so much more about themselves and their potential to be extraordinary. Learning, facing challenges, accomplishing meaningful goals through a group dynamic. What a joy to facilitate that. That’s why I volunteer. We need more leaders, and I highly recommend becoming one.”
Jeanine DiLillo, Sona Hyde and Lisa Ramos were all awarded the Girl Scout Spirit Award. DiLillo has served as the Port Washington Association Treasurer for the past four years, Hyde as the Chair of the Port Washington Association for the past four years and Ramos was the Association Cookie Chair for three years.
“It felt very nice, yet somehow unnecessary,” said DiLillo on the award. “When you volunteer for Girl Scouts your biggest honor is watching the girls grow into mature confident leaders. Scouting helps them find that in themselves. I am glad I can help them along the way. “
Not in attendance but also receiving awards were Kellie Cucunato, Donna Russo and Claudia Rudegeair. All the awardees being honored are also Girl Scout Leaders.
