The Women’s Club of The Congregational Church of Manhasset will celebrate its 77th birthday on Monday, May 7, at 12 p.m. in the church’s north lounge. A variety of sandwiches purchased from a local delicatessen, fruit, birthday cake, cookies, coffee and tea will be served for a requested donation of $10 per person.
At 12:45 p.m., following the luncheon, Director of Programs and Outreach for the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society (NYG&B) Susan R. Miller will present “Genealogy and Those DNA Pie Charts: What They Do and Don’t Mean.” We’ve all seen the commercials about kilts and lederhosen, but what do they mean to you and your family? Miller will discuss some fundamental tools for genealogy, and how they relate to DNA testing for genealogy and family history. She has researched her own family for more than 25 years and lectures at regional and national conferences.
Miller has been a NYG&B member since 1993 and has been on staff since 2014. In addition to directing the NYG&B’s many educational programs, she is also the editor of the NYG&B’s award-winning magazine, the New York Researcher; and was a managing editor of the New York Family History Research Guide and Gazetteer.
Miller has been researching New England and New York families for decades—not only does she know the ins and outs of key repositories throughout the state, she is well-trained in advanced genealogy methodology. She is the co-organizer for the New York State Family History Conference and has presented genealogical lectures on a regional and local basis.
The community is extended a cordial invitation to attend the luncheon and program. If you are unable to join the group for lunch, come for the program at 12:45 p.m. Visitors are welcome.
