On Mother’s Day weekend, while honoring their own moms, animal rights activists came out to support mothers of the canine variety who are trapped in deplorable conditions in puppy mills. Approximately 30 supporters gathered outside of Little Wonders Puppy Emporium in Sayville on May 12 to speak out about the plight of the dogs forced to breed nonstop.
According to the ASPCA, “Female dogs are treated like puppy-making machines. They are bred at every opportunity, without any rest time between litters, and when their bodies are so depleted that they can no longer produce puppies, they’re often abandoned or killed.”
Puppy Mill Free Long Island organized the demonstration. The group frequently protests outside of pet stores that sell puppies.
