The Village of Hempstead celebrated its 375th Anniversary in grand fashion. On a beautiful sunny day, community leaders and government officials from all parties were in attendance to honor James Garner, Village of Hempstead’s fist African American mayor.
Former Governor David Patterson, recording artist Robin S and The Former Mayor of Denver showed their appreciation for the charismatic James Garner.
The event featured the naming of a street James Garner Way and the opening of an exhibition that chronicles Hempstead’s history back to the first settlers.
