Prayers For Pittsburgh Around Long Island

pittsburgh 725985 1000“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of the victims of the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh,” said the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC). “May their memories be for a blessing. We pray for the injured victims that they have a speedy recovery. And we pray for strength for the people of Pittsburgh as they deal with this tragedy.”

Below are just some of the vigils and solidarity rallies that are taking place across Long Island in the next two days:

Monday, Oct. 29

11 a.m. Nassau County Show of Support and Unity Event at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building, 1550 Franklin Ave. in Mineola, followed by a briefing by the Nassau County Police Department about strategies and enforcement around houses of worship.

6:30 p.m. Prayer Vigil: Standing in Solidarity with Prayers for the Jewish Community of Pittsburgh and Humanity at the Islamic Center of Long Island, 835 Brush Hollow Rd, Westbury.

7 p.m. Recitation of Tehillim, or Psalms, and Prayers at Great Neck Synagogue‘s main sanctuary, 26, Old Mill Rd., Great Neck

7:30 p.m. Suffolk County Community Wide Solidarity Rally at Dix Hills Jewish Center, 555 Vanderbilt Parkway, Dix Hills

7:30 p.m. Memorial Service and Rally Against Hate at Congregation Shaaray Shalom, 711 Dogwood Avenue, West Hempstead.

Tuesday, Oct. 30

7 p.m. A Time To Mourn, A Time To Hope: A Community Response at the Mid-Island Y JCC, 45 Manetto Hill Rd., Plainview. Faith leaders of all faiths will come together in prayer, reflection, song and action.

Thursday, Nov. 1

7 p.m. Prayers for Pittsburgh at Temple Sinai of Massapequa, 270 Clocks Blvd., Massapequa. Commemoration in prayer, poetry and song.
