Budget Season Is Here

Manhasset residents should be aware that the Manhasset School District has begun the school budget process which will impact real estate taxes for 2019-20. The Manhasset Superintendent of School Dr. Vincent Butera invites the community to join in the process and make your voice heard.
The preliminary budget has been released and maintains and enhances all existing programs and services.
The preliminary budget continues to focus on the district’s goals and priorities while strengthening the foundation. This will enable the schools to support ongoing initiatives and address needs all within the tax levy cap which is 2.99 percent. As always, health care costs are rising and in 2019-20 what is anticipated to be $13,625,138, and increase of $301,913. State mandated pension contributions have declined $574,132 to $5,170,741.
The 2019-20 Manhasset School District budget is $99,497,241, a $3,127,306 increase over this year, or 3.25 percent. The proposed school tax levy is $89,003,370 which is in the allowable tax levy increase of 2.99 percent. To better understand how this budget breaks down and what it includes and represents, residents are encouraged to attend one or more of the upcoming budget review sessions before the preliminary budget is adopted on April 16. This process is meant for the community to better understand the needs of the school district and why your taxes will increase.
