Capital One recently issued a $25,000 grant to United Way of Long Island for its YouthBuild Long Island program.
YouthBuild, a signature program of United Way of Long Island, provides educational and career training for young adults, ages 16-24, to give them the technical and life skills needed to begin entry level jobs that will lead to mid-skills careers.
YouthBuild alumni have gone on to succeed as iron workers, electricians, nursing assistants, home health aides, licensed practical nurses, and college graduates. The program was founded in 2009 and has impacted more than 300 young adults to date.
This year, YouthBuild has expanded to serve the Village of Hempstead, Brentwood, and Central Islip communities.
