Mayor Ralph Ekstrand announced during the Feb. 3 board meeting that residents who are concerned about the construction on 20 Merritts Rd. are invited to come down to the Monday, Feb. 24, work session at 7 p.m. The village’s engineers, H2M, who have been in charge of overseeing and coordinating the start of the project since 2005, will be present and can answer questions. According to the mayor, this comes after plans were being circulated showing that what is currently being built at the site may not fit those plans.

“We have researched it somewhat from the files that are at village hall,” said Ekstrand. “Unfortunately, nobody sitting here [on the village board] was here at the time. We have the resolution and the site plan, and to the best of our knowledge, that’s the site plan that was approved. [H2M] will explain the story of the four developers and the approximately 16 plans that occurred from 2005 to February 2008. It will be best to have them speak.”

Here are the other highlights from the village meeting:

Public Hearings Ahead

The village board scheduled one public hearing for the March 2 board meeting, and adjourned three other hearings until then as well.

• Fairfield Properties is looking to renovate The Jefferson Plaza on Secatogue Avenue. An outline of the plans are on the village’s website at www.farmingdalevillage.com.
• The public hearing on the special use permit for 330 Conklin Street, which the owner of the property is looking to make into an event space, was initially set for Feb. 3 but was adjourned until March 2 due to a scheduling conflict.
• A hearing on the potential adoption of Local Law I, which amends two sections of the Workforce Housing District in the village code, was adjourned until March 2. The amended copy is expected to go onto the village website prior to the hearing with changes highlighted.
• A hearing to consider the special use permit of the Lexington Catering Facility at 346 Main St. was adjourned until March 2. The building, which is the former location of Ubaldo’s and Le Che, will have 93 seats.
