For some, getting in the spirit for St. Patrick’s Day takes a little more than a pint of Guinness and a bowl of Lucky Charms. Check out these Irish pubs for an authentic taste of the culture that the day celebrates, complete with cozy atmospheres and rich, traditional menu items.

So make sure you visit one—or all—of these establishments come St. Patrick’s Day on March 17.

Jack Duggan’s Pub

Located at 145 Tulip Ave. in Floral Park, Irish favorites are not hard to find at Jack Duggan’s Pub and Restaurant. From oven-baked shepherd’s pie to beer-battered fish and chips, Jack Duggan’s offers the best of Irish cuisine in a welcoming pub environment.

Greens Irish Pub

Head to 436 Plandome Rd. in Manhasset for the quintessential pub experience and a great menu at Greens Irish Pub. Greens not only serves up Irish classics like shepherd’s pie, but has an entire section of their menu dedicated to fries, including “Disco Fries,” topped with Guinness gravy and cheese. During the weekend, their Irish breakfast is a perfect combination of tradition and flavor, featuring Irish sausage, Irish bacon and white and black blood pudding.

The St. James

From the decor to the bangers and mash, The St. James is as Irish as it gets. With a bar made of wood imported from Ireland, the recently-renovated restaurant prides itself as a “modern Irish sports bar with old fashioned traditions.” The St. James’ menu keeps the festive theme going with offerings like fish and chips, Irish curry chicken and Reuben eggrolls. The St. James is located at 190 Second St. in Mineola.

Recovery Room Bar and Grill

Another great spot in Mineola for an authentic pub experience is the Recovery Room Bar and Grill, located at 214 Station Plaza North. In addition to classics like the corned beef sandwich and shepherd’s pie, the Recovery Room offers the Guinness Burger, a burger with ground beef marinated in Guinness stout, topped with sautéed onions and mozzarella cheese. The Recovery Room is open daily from 11 a.m. to 4 a.m.

Molly’s Pub and Restaurant

If you don’t mind taking a trip into New York City for the holiday, a meal at Molly’s Pub and Restaurant Shebeen is worth the trek. Located at 287 Third Ave. in New York, Molly’s boasts being the “most traditional Irish bar in New York, complete with sawdust on the floor and a log-burning fireplace.” From 11 a.m. to 4 a.m. daily, this pub offers three varieties of potato skins, curried fries and entrées like Irish lamb stew. A full Irish breakfast is available until 4 p.m. as well.
