The talk show that goes directly to the homes of America’s top comedians might have ended without an official announcement. Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, hosted by car enthusiast Jerry Seinfeld, appears to have poured its last mug.

The show, which split time between Crackle and Netflix, aired 84 episodes since its 2012 debut. Seinfeld, who created the show, would pick up his peers in hot (sometimes, not so much) rods, drive around Long Island, Manhattan and Los Angeles. They would grab a casual cup of coffee, a bite to eat and even take a walk if the weather was nice. It was Seinfeld’s way of having a talk show in a unique way, rather than sitting behind a desk.

When Long Island Weekly asked Seinfeld about plans for a 12th season, which was rumored to be coming out this summer, he said not so fast.

“We haven’t planned anything with that show,” Seinfeld said. “I feel like I did that tour. We did about 80 of them. I know they look very casual and easy, but they’re a lot of work to make. The editing is very intense. I feel like I may have done that exploration at this point.”

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee is perfect for automobile lovers who want to see Seinfeld’s collection of incredible Porsche vehicles and, of course, coffee. At times, Seinfeld went above and beyond, even interviewing then-President Barack Obama at The White House to kick off the seventh season of the show.

Throughout Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Seinfeld spent plenty of time with comedians on the island. From spending time in the Hamptons with Jimmy Fallon to walking around East Meadow and Hicksville with Sarah Jessica Parker, this show was quintessential Long Island at its finest.

Seinfeld even filmed an episode with Alec Baldwin, walking along the shores of Jones Beach and getting a nosh at the Massapequa Diner. It was a rare look at how two famed comedians from the same area share a camaraderie just like everyday New Yorkers.

“Now, I feel like I just want to be out on a stage,” Seinfeld said. “I don’t really care where. I don’t care what size of venue. It’s just about enjoying that moment and it doesn’t have to be big or a conventional show business venture.”

Seinfeld just released Jerry Seinfeld: 23 Hours to Kill, his first comedy special since 1998. In 2017, Jerry Before Seinfeld, a mixture of a stand-up act at the Comic Strip Live and his past life, began streaming on Netflix, which was produced by Syosset’s Judd Apatow.

So while there might not be a season 12 of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, fans of the show can still stream it on Netflix. Who knows, maybe Seinfeld will indeed bring back the show one day. But until then, there are 80 episodes to choose from.
