Long Island 9/11 Memorial Events Set for 20th Anniversary

The 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks will be remembered at memorials across Long Island, home to about 500 of the nearly 3,000 victims killed in the World Trade Center.

Vigils large and small will be held at local 9/11 memorial sites and other venues leading up to Saturday and throughout the weekend.

What follows are more than a dozen events planned across Nassau and Suffolk counties:

TOWN OF OYSTER BAY (SOUTH)

Wall of Honor 9/11 Memorial at Tobay Beach. For more information, please contact the Town’s Department of Community & Youth Services at 516-797-7900. 7 p.m. Sept. 9.

TOWN OF HEMPSTEAD

Town Park Point Lookout, Lido Boulevard (intersection of Loop Parkway and Lido Boulevard), Point Lookout. For more information, visit hempsteadny.gov. 7:30 a.m. Sept. 11.

SOUTHAMPTON

TOWN OF NORTH HEMPSTEAD

FLANDERS

TOWN OF SOUTHOLD

Southold Town Rec Center, 970 Peconic Lane in Peconic, for silent vigil to Jean Cochran Park, also on Peconic Lane, where memorial service begins at 9:59 a.m. Screening of Girl Scouts film Ripples to follow in the Rec Center at 11 a.m. Local firefighters will lay a wreath and say a prayer in Jean Cochran Park at 6 p.m. 9:15 a.m. and 6 p.m., Sept 11.

TOWN OF RIVERHEAD
