A man was shot and killed while onboard a Long Island Rail Road train stopped at the Ronkonkoma station early Wednesday morning, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

Yusef Staine, 20, of West Babylon, was pronounced dead at the scene of the westbound train after a man who appeared to be traveling with him shot him at about 1:45 a.m., police said. The male suspect fled the scene following the shooting, and police are now investigating.

“The shooting appears to be an isolated incident and no one else was injured,” Suffolk Police Commissioner Rodney K. Harrison said in a statement. “Detectives are asking anyone with information on this shooting to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.”

Both the westbound and eastbound trains continued to run on one track while the train remained parked for investigation, causing some LIRR delays at Ronkonkoma on Wednesday.
