AG Probes Suffolk Police Shooting That Left Bay Shore Man Dead, Officer Injured
The New York State Attorney General’s office is investigating Suffolk County police officers that shot and killed a man who had slashed one of the officers Saturday in Bay Shore, authorities said.
Third Precinct officers responded to reports of a domestic violence incident at a residence on Udall Road, where Taiquell Woodson opened the front door while holding a baton and a knife that he allegedly used to slash one of the officers who fell in the snow shortly after 9 a.m. Feb. 17, authorities said.
A second officer tried to use his taser on Woodson and a third officer fired his service weapon at the 33-year-old man, who was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Officers applied a tourniquet to the officer who was stabbed before he was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip and then airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, where the two other officers were also taken. All three have been treated and released. Authorities did not identify the officers.
Investigators recovered the knife at the scene. Homicide Squad detectives are continuing the investigation, as is the state attorney general’s Office of Special Investigation, as is mandatory when police cause the death of a civilian.
