The KiDS NEED MoRE community came together for a momentous occasion on April 12th, 2024. They celebrated the 25th Anniversary of The Mills’ Party for Life in Memory of Peter Careccia, held at the Heritage Club at Bethpage in Farmingdale. This event marked a quarter-century of unwavering support for children battling cancer and their families, specifically through unforgettable camp experiences.
The party began with a heartwarming story. Dr. Joseph and MaryAnn Mills, touched by their friends John and Kathy Careccia’s struggle with their son Peter’s illness, decided to take action. Their initiative sparked a movement that has raised over $3 million over the years. This incredible sum has provided countless children affected by cancer, and their siblings, with memorable camp experiences, offering a much-needed escape, fostering connections, and a sense of normalcy during a difficult time.
This year’s event wasn’t just about celebrating a milestone; it also honored cherished KiDS NEED MoRE supporters, Jilly Rae Breslin and Marcia Besserman. A symbolic heart presentation acknowledged Careccia and the Mills’ 25 years of dedication and the remarkable legacy they’ve built together. The night was a resounding success, drawing over 400 attendees and raising over $150,000 for the cause.
Popular Long Island band Vinyl Revival kept the energy high with their lively performances, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
KiDS NEED MoRE relies on the community’s generosity to continue their vital work. Their initiatives provide children and families facing cancer with critical social and emotional support through camp experiences, fostering a sense of community and joy.
