An art exhibition will adorn Huntington Town Hall for the month of May, in celebration of AAPI Heritage Month. May is AAPI heritage month.
During this time, we are highlighting and celebrating the contributions and trailblazing spirit of the AAPI community that have shaped the history of our nation. The pioneering spirit of the AAPI community reflects the spirit of our great country. We pay homage to all those who came before us, whose actions give us strength to continue to break cultural barriers and restrictive ceilings. The AAPI community will continue to forge forward to ensure our voices are heard and the occupied seats at the table are an accurate reflection of our communities. We are very much present and we are very much woven into the bedrock of this nation.” says Lucie Kwon, the president of the United Asian American Alliance, who also organized this exhibition.
The curator of this exhibition is Joan Kim Suzuki, who is also an Asian-American artist living in Long Island, NY. Korean Folk Art inspires her intricate and colorful work, but with a modern twist, blending her experiences growing up in America. She invited 13 Asian-American artists to join her in this group exhibition. Due to language barriers, raising families, and work. Most of these artists had put their art careers on hold. Joan hopes that this opportunity will give them the confidence to step into the art communities of Long Island.
