Munsey Park Elementary Unveils New Garden

DSCN4441 (1)

Munsey Park Elementary School in the Manhasset Union Free School District held a ribbon cutting for their new garden on Monday, May 13. This is the latest garden to be installed throughout the entire district, developed in collaboration with Planet Manhasset and Manhasset SCA (School Community Association).

Munsey Park, which had a garden already, is now setting up a second one. The old garden will serve as a pollinator garden and the new one will be for growing vegetables. Students on all grade levels will take part in caring for the gardens through age-tailored activities. At the ribbon cutting ceremony, a kindergarten and fourth-grade class watched as the newest area was opened for the students, staff and community to now take part in. The food harvested from the gardens is donated to the food bank at Our Lady of Fatima in Port Washington.

“Anytime you have students come together and be part of the community to develop something lasting, it helps them feel ownership and take pride in what they are involved in,” said Munsey Park Elementary School Principal Dr. Altman. “And it also helps them develop a green thumb along the way.”
