On June 22, the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library hosted a Summer Reading Kickoff Event. The theme for this summer’s reading program is “Adventure Begins at Your Library,” and the program is available for ages three to adult.
At the kickoff event, the library hosted activities that fit into this year’s magical theme of adventure. With comedy, storytelling, magic and illusions, audience members got to watch performances by special guests.
“The kickoff was a fun way to begin the summer reading club. All ages enjoyed the Magic Beyond Imagination show. Some of our audience members participated in assisting with magic tricks,” said Library Director Michele Vaccarelli.
Magic Beyond Imagination was a magician that performed at the event, and audience members enjoyed participating in the act. There were musical routines and performances as well.
Each child that registered received free stickers, as well as a magic flier, which is a toy that teaches them several different tricks to perform at home.
The event was held in the backyard of the library, and about 50 patrons attended the event. The event was open to all ages, and the library encourages all of its patrons to participate in the summer reading program this year.
Throughout the summer, the library continues to offer its regularly scheduled programming, including storytimes, movie screenings, exercise classes, cooking classes and live performances. “Adults, young adults and children signed up for the summer reading program,” said Vaccarelli. “We are looking forward to a wonderful summer full of great programs and reading incentives for all.”
