The Village of Old Brookville provided updates on the search for Peishuan Fan and JuanJuan Zwang, an Old Brookville couple who went missing in March, at its Monday, July 21 Board of Trustees meeting.

Mayor Bernie Ryba said he has seen reports that the couple’s children, ages 12 and 20, have moved to live with extended family in China. He said their house is currently for sale.

Ryba said the status of the couple’s disappearance has “still not been resolved.”

Fan, 48, and Zwang, 44, were reported missing on Monday, March 31, by the Nassau County Police Department. The couple was last seen on Sunday, March 30 at 10:31 p.m. at their residence on Maria Drive, Nassau County police said.

Their home in Old Brookville was reportedly bought in 2023 for $3.8 million in cash.

Fan is described as an Asian male who is approximately 5’2” tall and 135 pounds with brown eyes and black hair, and Zwang is described as an Asian female who is approximately 5’0” tall and 130 pounds with brown eyes and black hair, according to county police.

According to a previous report, before the couple immigrated to the U.S., Fan had been detained in China.

Ryba said the Old Brookville Police Department was initially involved in the case, as well as the Nassau County Police Department. He said the FBI has become involved as well.

“This is probably a once-in-a-lifetime kind of occurrence in the village,” he said.

Ryba said that prior to their disappearance, Fan and Zwang had a meeting in Manhattan and had told their children they would be in Syracuse the following day. They have not been heard from since, he said.

Ryba said he was “heartened” to hear that the couple’s children would be with family members. It had been previously reported that while the children were living in Old Brookville after their parents’ disappearance, they were visited by nearby family members and child protective services officials.

He said that cases of this nature are “extremely rare” in the village.
