Planet Home Lending, which has helped many thousands of people finance their new home, was ranked the Top Workplace on Long Island survey for large businesses employing 500 or more in the 2025 survey.
Founded in 2007, this privately owned mortgage lending company based in Meriden, Conn, has 59 employees in Melville, its Long Island location, and 1,233 nationwide. The company, online at planethomelending.com, says it wants to make mortgage loans easier, not simply viewing a house as an investment, but with the motto of, “We’ll get you home.”
As a national mortgage lender, servicer, and asset manager, Planet Home Lending offers home loans backed by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, the Veterans Administration, Federal Housing Administration, USDA and private funders.
The company says it “fulfills homeownership dreams” for people in 48 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
It also serves its employees well, based on dozens of workers who expressed a wide range of reasons for loving their job, such as making a difference, a sense of accomplishment, working from home, something new daily, an enjoyable environment and flexible work/family balance.
“’We’ll get you home’ is more than just our company motto,” according to the company. “Yes, we offer great home mortgages to our wonderful customers, but we also give new hires a professional home where they feel welcomed, valued, included, and heard.”
The company said it takes many steps designed to make workers feel at home, which benefits employees, clients and the company.
“We know that building a great company starts by investing in our people and that is something we do on a daily basis,” said Dona DeZube, Planet Home Lending spokesperson and senior vice president of communications. “We’re proud to offer a positive, growth-focused environment where employees are supported, empowered, and encouraged to align their careers with their passions.”
The company views creating a welcoming workplace as an important way of supporting employees and getting work done.
“We foster a career mindset throughout the organization by a focus on longevity, the ability to cross-train and move across channels,” according to the company, “and a commitment to internal promotions to keep employees engaged, learning, and growing.”
The company says it supports employees with an environment of “true work-life balance, as demonstrated by the number of work-from-anywhere positions throughout all levels and branches.”
DeZube said they worked to create an organization where the team can “collaborate, innovate, and grow together, delivering an outstanding experience for our customers and each other.”
The company said it supports internal promotion as part of being “deeply invested in the success of our employees.”
It says it also strives to provide an inclusive environment, valuing and “ensuring every voice is heard, believing that listening and acting on truly diverse perspectives bring the best results.”
And it supports women in leadership out of a belief that gender diversity gives a “full view of the human experience so critical to reaching full potential in such a personalized industry.”
“We are an organization characterized by a deep desire to make a difference in the lives of those around us,” according to the company. “We think bigger, work smarter, and perform better, constantly striving to uplift each other on our collective path home.”
Employees in forms submitted in the selection process described a company worthy of being named the top workplace.
“I always feel like my voice and opinions are heard and taken into consideration, no matter how high up the chain,” one employee said. “Our company truly cares about its employees and clients.”
Others said they like the work, while still others like the knowledge that they are helping people buy homes.
“It challenges me and allows me to be creative to enhance my problem solving skills to solve complex issues,” one employee said regarding reasons for loving their job.
“It gives me a sense of purpose in making people’s dreams and goals happen,” another said.
The company also operates Planet with a Purpose, a social responsibility initiative that supports its goals of not only making a better Planet Home Lending, but a better planet.
“We like to say, ‘We support our planet, our people, and prosperity,’ which includes donations to and volunteer activities with organizations that share our values,” according to the organization.
That includes donations to, volunteering and supporting organizations such as the National Forest Foundation, which seeks to plant trees in and restore American national forests.
They also support Farmlink Project’s supply chain solutions to take food waste from farmers to food banks, and the Dallas-based Army Scholarship Foundation’s efforts to provide scholarships to families of those who have served.
