MIRACLE Foundation Hosts 10th Annual Michael J. Tenaglia Golf and Tennis Classic

The MIRACLE Foundation, a not-for-profit cancer foundation, will host its tenth annual Michael J. Tenaglia Golf and Tennis Classic at the Cherry Valley Club and the Garden City Country Club in Garden City on Monday, June 8. The event, which attracts influential leaders in business and industry, will posthumously honor Foundation co-Founder Michael J. Tenaglia for taking a dream to help patients and families touched by cancer and making it a reality.

The outing includes golf and tennis tournaments, a silent auction and fabulous raffle prizes. “Our annual Golf and Tennis Classic is one of our most significant and enjoyable fundraising events, and provides an opportunity for our donors and friends to join together in celebration of our accomplishments and support our mission of finding a cure and improving access to treatment for cancer patients and their families,” Joseph Castronovo, foundation president, said.

This year’s event will also celebrate the tenth anniversary of The MIRACLE Foundation as a leader in promoting cancer research and innovative treatment in the Long Island and New York metropolitan area. The Foundation has granted over $3 million to programs to help improve the lives of people diagnosed with cancer and finding a cure for the disease.

Among the Foundation’s major accomplishments have been funding groundbreaking research at Johns Hopkins University by world renowned researcher, Dr. Bert Vogelstein; providing more than $500,000 to the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory to support research conducted by Dr. Michael Wigler, which may be instrumental in allowing physicians to recommend better treatment choices for their patients; granting over $100,000 to the Cancer Center for Kids at Winthrop University Hospital to provide funding for a full-time child life specialist, who provides children undergoing treatment a unique psychosocial element to the treatment process.

The Foundation is also a founding sponsor of the Morgan Center, which provides annual tuition for preschool aged children diagnosed with cancer and for those who are immune suppressed, so that they may attend school. And, the Foundation spearheaded the creation of The MIRACLE Foundation Pavilion at Mercy Medical Center, staffed by professionals from Memorial Sloan-Kettering. This state-of-the-art facility provides treatment and care coordination to patients and their families without having to travel to Manhattan.

Corporate sponsors for this year’s Golf and Tennis Classic include UBS, Korg USA, Morgan Stanley, Citigroup Private Bank, Astoria Federal Savings, Sovereign Bank, Bank of New York and Dreyfus. To make a reservation, contact the Foundation at 873-0105 or visit www.miraclefoundation.com.
