TOPSOCCER
Last week NHP joined all the other LIJSL TOPSoccer Programs for an impressive tournament at the Soccer Park in P/OB. Chris Cooney, Joshua Hom, Petros Panomeritakis and Tristan Yang participated in the junior division. Tristan was the offensive standout of the day as he lit up the scoreboard with an awesome display of scoring. Emily Bosco, Kerra Thornton and Harrison Stein represented us well in the intermediate division. The seniors fielded a very competitive team as they held their own against some of the other more experienced clubs. Robert Vittiglio, Adam Strominger, Matt Saraiva, Billy Russo, Andrea Matteo, Sebastian Garcia, Stefani Egre, Debbie Chin and Andrew Abberton played together as a cohesive unit. Our coaches, Brian Katie, Jess, Brianna, Danny, Kevin, Michelle, Matt and Jeremy, did an outstanding job in assisting our players. After a sumptuous round of hot dogs and hamburgers, all the players were awarded a beautiful medallion and T-shirt. A big thanks to Waldbaum’s who catered the food and provided the awards. BU-13 NHP Cougars 3 vs Bellmore Bandits 0
On a terrific sunny day, the New Hyde Park Cougars traveled to take on the Bellmore Bandits. As the first half progressed, the Bandits played to win but couldn’t sneak one into the goal. Our goalie Yovan Kumar stopped everything that came his way. Going into the half, it was 0-0. The Cougars came off at halftime and told the coaches they really wanted to win. The second half started and the Cougars stepped it up with Rohit Basu blasting one pass the Bandit goalie with an assist from Cristian Hldago. The Bandits turned it up and drove down field, slipping through our midfield and out came Michael Zornberg sliding and making contact to stop the breakaway. With the Cougars still feeling good with the goal earlier, Keita Wantanabe crossed a superb ball to our top end and Rohit was there again to score his second goal of the game making it 2-0 Cougars. A few minutes later on a throw in from Matthew Sartoris (assist and playing superb defense) which found Steve Sumba, Steve snuck the ball in past the Bandit goalie making it 3-0 Cougars. Great effort today from Dominick Rossi, Anthony DiMarco, Lorenzo Ugarte, and Scott LaMarca. We all hope Rinki feels better and wish a speedy recovery to Coach Cosmo who is sidelined with knee surgery

Top of FormSoccer Stars vs. Kitty Kats
On a very warm Sunday afternoon, the Soccer Stars displayed a very solid gamof soccer today. In goal for the first half for the Soccer Stars was Channing Woo who made many terrific saves off the Kitty Kats. Displaying great goal-tending, Channing cleared the ball out quickly down the field to her mid-fielder played by Isabelle Glennon showing great footwork and making a crucial pass to her open offender Irene Tsahas who dribbled around the Kitty Kats defender, one on one with the goalie and kicked a beautiful shot to corner of the net to place the Soccer Stars in the lead. The Kitty Kats came back and tied up the game but the Soccer Stars were not giving up, closely marking the opponents, keeping them out to the sidelines, they came back quickly with an assist by Gabriella Caicedo to Irene Tsahas who dribbled around the defender straight to the goal and blasted a beautiful left-footed shot in the goal. Great Goal Irene T.!! The Soccer Stars took the lead once again, however,The Kitty Kats came back and tied the game to end the first half of play. In goal for the Soccer Stars in the second half of play was Irene Krische who displayed her outstanding goal tending abilities, coming out of goal to grab the ball and punting the ball out quickly down the field to her offensive line led by Alina Kachar, Daniela O’Modie and Orna Kidanian who put pressure on the Kitty Kats defense marking their every move and keeping the ball inside the goal box. Calling each other on the field when there are in an open position and making that vital pass led to many scoring opportunities for the Soccer Stars. Holding tight on defense was Randi Sarf, Tiffany Moreno and Ariana Kaloudis clearing the ball down the sidelines to keep the opponent away from the goal box. There was a very close attempt by Gabriella Caicedo when she was in the right position in front of the goal and blasted a shot in the upper left hand corner that just went high and wide. So Close Gabriella!!&n bsp; Both teams playing extremely aggressive, The Kitty Kats made a break away and scored to take the lead in the game. The Soccer Stars came back on a penalty kick by Irene Tsahas who tied up the game with her strong kick right pass the goalie and a Hat Trick for her in the game. Great Kick Irene!! GU9 CHAMPIONSHIP: LIGHTNING – 4, CUBS – 5 in OT
What a way to end the Lightning season! A very well played Championship Game that went into Overtime and had a little bit of everything. Considering the weather, I think all the kids on both teams were thoroughly toasted by the end of the extended game. The Cubbies took an early 1-0 lead in the first half before Katie Krems tied it up on a high and hard PK that sailed into the top of the net. The first half ended 1-1. The Cubs took a 2-1 lead to start the second half, but the Lightning answered when Cara Becker put a away a short range shot off a mad scramble in front of goal to tie the game 2-2. Then it got real interesting: the Cubs took a 4-2 lead into the last 5 minutes of the game, but the Lightning came ‘storming’ back. Sophia Leeds started the comeback by popping in a well placed shot off a goal kick that caught the goalie out of the net, and this goal cut the lead to 3-2. Minutes later, Cara Becker made a super killer pass to Katie K who dashed down field, got off a rocket shot that the goalie made a terrific block on, but KK got a hold of the rebound and put it away to knot the score and send the game into OT. The first 5 minute overtime remained scoreless, but Jordyn Siegal put in the game-winner for the Cubs with about 3 minutes left in OT. The Lightning tried valiantly to answer, but could not find the net in the closing seconds. Great game by both teams – and the Lightning congratulates the Cubs on a hard fought victory. For the Lightning, Lauren Perlman, Kristen Granieri and Isabel Ugolini all played super in goal and made several dazzling saves. Bethany Ambrosio, Dierdre Lynch, Sophia Leeds and Isabel played a very tough defense. On the attack, Cara B, Sophia Leeds and Kaitie K ran their hearts out in the heat. Taylor Daher did well in the middle and did a nice job making passes. Shayna Zeitlin – we missed you. Great Season Ladies. Not only did you have a lot of success on the field, but you won Sportsmanship too – a very much deserved double-whammy.
GU9 CHAMPIONSHIP: LIGHTNING – 4, CUBS – 5 in OT
Wow what a pressure cooker of a game. Who would of though an hour of soccer could reach temperatures in the triple digits. Well it felt like that temperature with these two teams battling it out for, the championship win. I want to congratulate the Lightning players on a playing a great game, and making it very exciting for all who were watching. The Cubs were pretty much on cruise control for most of the game up until overtime, It was up to the girls to decide if it would be first or second place trophies they would walk home with, and they put it all out on the line this afternoon. The Cubs came out drawing first blood, as Jordyn Siegel scored her first goal less then ten minutes into the game and she would score three more times after throughout the game. She was supported nicely by Marissa Menist, and Dylan Sanders. Defense was top priority against the fast striking Lightning, and each girl played their best out there, led by Casey Sanders, Marissa Cronin, Kasey Borduas and really kicking her game up a notch, with power and speed, was Kira Crehan who played the entire game and put the breaks on many of the charges against the Lightning. Casey Sanders tore through the defense for a goal of second half. By the end of regulation the Lightning came back to tie up the game at 4 apiece. That put us into a 10 minute overtime that was scoreless up until two minutes left in the game when once again Jordyn Siegel took the bull by the horns and started the fast break of her life leaving her defender behind and scored the winning goal for the Cubs. Our goaltenders sure had there hands full all afternoon. In first at goal was Olivia Lugo who did a nice job unfortunately jammed her finger in the middle of the first half. Casey Sanders was solid as always in between the poles. And our new courage’s goalie Marissa Menist who played the most minutes in goal, played tremendously at the position in the past few games, thank you for stepping up and being brave for us. I would like to thank the parents for there unconditional support and help throughout this season, car pooling and sharing your time with all your events and schedules, to make it to all the practices and games. Thank you to Coach Joe for his support and his handling of the girls when things didn’t go my way he stepped in to iron things out, in his subtle way. To all the girls on the team thank you for a winning season but most of all a fun season I’ll never forget much love to all of you. Thank you Coach Phil
Panthers vs. Lady Tigers –
The final game of the season was played on a bright Sunday morning in front of a standing room only crowd. The Lady Tigers jumped out to a quick two goal lead, but the Panther offense lead by Mackenzie Griffin and Ciara Lennon, moved kept the ball in Lady tigers territory for most of the first half. The Lady Tigers looked as though they would extend the lead, but a beautiful stop by Panther goalie Julia Kosinski kept the lead at two. Edna Dudek took the goalie throw in the length of the field and passed to a wide opened Tiffany Velin who shot wide left, missing a Panther goal by inches. The half ended with a beautiful diving save by Panther goalie Natalie Giordano. The Panthers came storming out the second half of play with a beautiful clearing pass from Ally Petricca to Tiffany Velin who took the ball from midfield to score the lone Panther goal of the day. Both teams lined up and shook hands after the game with great big smiles on their faces, because they had played an awesome game.
Special thanks to all of the parents for rooting on the girls each week!!

NHP Tornado Tigers 2 vs. Plainedge 1
The Tornado Tigers have now won 5 games in a row, this one against a skilled team from Plainedge. The Tornado Tigers have played extremely well this season passing the ball with much more skill and relying on a much improved team defense. Maggie Donnelly scored 5 seconds into the game on a quick steal, a nifty move around the defense and a strong kick into the corner of the net. Maggie had a beautiful crossing pass midway through the first half on a goal by Samantha Merino who celebrated her birthday weekend with a nice goal to put the Tornado Tigers ahead 2-0. After that the defense and goalie Mariella Facibene took care of the rest. Mariella was terrific in goal again and defenders Kimberly Keblish, Isabelle Brenes, Danielle Gerbe and Milla Skugor played outstanding team defense. The Tornado Tigers finish their season next Saturday June 13th against Wantagh Seaford Crusaders.
