Walking Tour

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, 1 Bungtown Rd., Cold Spring Harbor, invites the community to a guided walking tour of its historic buildings and botanical landscape. The tour focuses on CSHL’s historic architecture and its Nobel Prize legacy and provides a peek into the cutting edge scientific research taking place. The tour will also cover the indoor and outdoor art works featured on the 117 acre shore-side campus. The tours are primarily outdoors and take place regardless of weather conditions. Areas include stairs and steep hills and are not recommended for people who have difficulty walking. Tours assemble at 10 a.m. in the Grace Auditorium lobby. Reservations are required at least seven days in advance and a minimum of 10 participants are required for each tour. There is a non-refundable tour fee of $5 per person that can be paid in advance or on arrival. Payment can only be made by cash or check and checks should be made payable to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Call 367-6895. Also on Aug. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29.

Oheka Castle: Monument to Survival

Life Under Water

Growing up in Palm Beach, as the grandson of iconic fashion designer Lily Pulitzer, Christopher lived a beach lifestyle and spent all of his time on or in the water. He fearlessly explored the underwater caves and experienced the beauty of nature that most of us never get to see. His artistic eye and love of the underwater world compelled him to pursue a career in underwater cinematography and photography. His portfolio of photographs caught the eye of Television Producers who hired him as the executive videographer for a series called Reel Adventures. His solo show of underwater images will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at Anderson Galleries, 92 Forest Ave., Locust Valley. Mr. Leidy will be in attendance. Refreshments served. Call 802-3552.

Children’s Summer Workshop

All classes will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Raynham Hall Museum, 20 W. Main St. Call 922-6808. Small class sizes and a caring and unique environment for your child. Children, ages 5 to 12, will experience history hands-on with museum educators and special guests for an unforgettable experience. Family members $125 per session; non-family members $175 per session. Family memberships $45 per year. Refunds granted only if submitted 14 days ahead of the start of the workshop.

•July 27-July 31: Colonial Life. Learn about the daily tasks in the colonial world. Bake in an old-fashioned kitchen, play colonial games and make colonial crafts.

Call For Craft Vendors

Mill Neck Manor is calling for vendors of handmade items for its Annual Fall Harvest Festival, held on Oct. 10 and 11, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A favorite tradition on LI, visitors eagerly await the festival for its crafts, apples, pumpkins, pies and other delicious treats. Country crafts, offering handmade items and holiday gifts, are one of the festival’s main features. If you make or sell crafts and feel that you would be a great addition to the Festival, you are encouraged to apply. Vendors are assigned an outdoor space (10’x10’) with a table and two chairs. All vendors are required to have a tent or canopy; those vendors who do not own a suitable tent may rent one from Mill Neck Manor for a small fee. Freeport H.S. Class of 1959 50th Reunion

Member of the Freeport High School Class of 1959 have planned a gala weekend to celebrate their 50-year reunion from Sept.11 to 13. Begins Friday night with a meeting at E.B. Elliot’s on the Nautical Mile to renew old acquaintances. Saturday will find the group at Jones Beach Field 6 or at Museum Row riding Nunley’s Carousel once more, in the bleachers at the Freeport vs. Oceanside football game or just riding around the village visiting old haunts. At 7 p.m. converge at the Freeport Yacht Club for dinner and enjoyment of music of the ‘50s. Before starting home on Sunday, groups will meet at local diners for farewells over brunch.
