Cowboy Mounted Shooting Contest
A piece of the Old West will come to life at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, Round Swamp Rd., Old Bethpage, as 21st-century cowboys meet for an action-packed New York State “Cowboy Mounted Shooting” championship. Sponsored by The Island Long Riders, the event features contestants on horseback with two .45-caliber single-action revolvers, each loaded with five rounds of blanks. The riders, dressed in traditional Western garb, are scored on accuracy and time as they shoot at targets. (opposite the Morton Village Plaza), will hold a blood drive from 3 to 8:30 p.m. To be a blood donor, you must: Bring valid ID (school ID is fine), know Social Security number, weigh at least 110 pounds, be age 17 (age 16 with written permission of a parent or guardian) to 76, eat well (low fat) and drink fluids, and not have received any tattoos in the last twelve months. At 10 a.m., the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library offers a trip to the Gateway Playhouse. The $88 per person cost includes a full course lunch at the Bellport Country Club, a ticket to the Gateway Playhouse matinee production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and round trip transportation by luxury bus.
