The Mayor’s Corner: September 11, 2009

Eight years ago today, our country and state were the victims of a horrible terrorist attack. Let’s remember and pray for the victims and their families, some of them our neighbors, friends and loved ones. As we go about our day today, let’s never forget the sacrifices made, lives lost and pray for our troops at war. God Bless America.

The Williston Park Little League will be dedicating their 9/11 Garden this evening at Kelleher Field at 7 p.m. A donation of a piece of the North Tower will be added to the Memorial Garden. Join us at Kelleher tonight at 7 p.m. to remember 9/11. All are invited to attend.

Last Thursday night, I had the privilege of dedicating and naming our Village Gazebo after former Mayor Tom Muldoon. Thank you to all who attended: former Village Of Williston Park Mayor Connelly and Mayor Ehrbar, Deputy Mayor Ann Marie Smith, Trustee Darmstadt, Monsignor James McDonald, East Williston Mayor Zolezzi and Receiver of Taxes Rocco Iannarelli were joined by Legislator Rich Nicolello, County Clerk Maureen O’Connell and Councilman Angelo Ferrara who presented Tom with proclamations of a “TOM MULDOON DAY” throughout the county.

Thank you to DPW and my Village Hall staff for planning and setting up for this event. Thanks to The Chamber of Commerce for their refreshments. A special thanks to Little League and the Darmstadt’s for setting up and lending us their sound system.

Thank you to the Williston Park Auxiliary Police for their help throughout the evening. Thank you Reagan Stone for the enjoyable concert and most of all, thank you Tom Muldoon, for all of your years of service to our community.

Good luck to all the students returning to or starting school. Remember that most local schools have started classes. Watch for children crossing and do not pass school buses. Be considerate when parking near schools and do not block driveways of residents. Remind our children to use caution and cross streets safely. Remember to push the button at intersections to give you more time to cross the street.

Block parties: Please be mindful of your neighbors on surrounding blocks when parking and cleaning up after the 11:00 p.m. ending time. The street must be opened to traffic after 11:00 p.m. and all music must stop by 11 pm also.

The Neighborhood Watch program continues. We invite all residents to join us at our next Neighborhood Watch meeting on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. in village hall. We will be meeting our new “POP” cop and would like to spread the word to our neighbors about our programs. School and Scout groups are also welcome to attend. We have decals for all residents and are in need of more volunteers. Please join us on Sept. 22.

The Auxiliary Police of Williston Park are also always looking for volunteers to join them. Call for 746-0720 for more information.

See you around Town!
