Women’s Club Art In the Park Event
The new banner across Main Street welcomes residents to attend the Second Annual Art Show And Sale to be held on the Village Green (rain date is Sept. 13) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Live music will fill the air as you stroll through our park and view the talents of artists. The Women’s Club of Farmingdale is sponsoring this event and all monies raised will provide funds for scholarships and community projects. Walk in Honor of Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy
Lt. Michael Murphy was killed in a fierce firefight in mountainous terrain along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. He led a four-man special reconnaissance unit that was reported to be trailing a high-ranking terror leader when they were ambushed by scores of insurgent fighters. Murphy was shot when he climbed to higher ground to send an electronic call for help. Wounded, Murphy completed the call and continued fighting. As a result, he was awarded the Medal of Honor. The walk will be held at 9 a.m. at Bethpage State Park, Polo Field. All proceeds benefit New Island Hospital’s Emergency Department. Property Tax Exemption Outreach Forum
If you live in and are the owner of a home, condominium or cooperative apartment, you may qualify for hundreds of dollars in property tax savings each year. American Sign Language Classes
Interested in learning the third most popular language studied in the United States? This fall, Mill Neck Services will offer American Sign Language classes at its new Day Habilitation and Interpreter Services building, 501 S. Broadway, Suite A, Hicksville. Within New York State, many school districts now recognize ASL as a “foreign” language, providing credit towards a Regents diploma. Volunteers Needed
The Mill Neck Family of Organizations is seeking volunteers to work at food sales, children’s activities, apple booths and more during the Fall Harvest Festival to be held on Oct. 10 and 11. The outdoor festival, known as “Apple Sale,” features a wide variety of apples and seasonable produce, craft items, a Cheese House, deaf specialty items and much more. Volunteer support from local civic and church groups, students, alumni, staff, parents and faithful supporters, have made this a special and memorable event. Volunteers can work from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., 12:30 to 5 p.m. or all day. Food tickets will be provided for all volunteers who work four or more hours. This year, the Mill Neck Family will host a “Kick-Off Breakfast for Volunteers” on Oct. 3 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Deaf Education Center. Open to all 2009 volunteers ages 16 and over, the event will feature a delicious continental breakfast, an orientation and a long-time volunteer recognition ceremony. Have a fond Fall Harvest Memory?
