Trash2Treasure Street Fair

There will be a Hicksville community cookout and yard sale at the Hicksville Boys & Girls Club, 79 W. Old Country Rd., from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The club is across the street from the local IHOP. This event will be hosted by Cornerstone, a new church in the Hicksville area. All proceeds raised will go directly to the Hicksville Boys & Girls Club. There are two ways you can help: donate items from around your home that you no longer use (to arrange a pickup, contact Mike by e-mail @ mikeytheshoe@me.com or call the Club @ 822-KIDS) or you can show up at the Hicksville community cookout and yard sale and buy a few items you need. There will be free food, free face painting, free sand art and more.

American Sign Language Classes

Interested in learning the third most popular language studied in the United States? This fall, Mill Neck Services will offer American Sign Language classes at its new Day Habilitation and Interpreter Services building, 501 S. Broadway, Suite A, Hicksville. Within New York State, many school districts now recognize ASL as a “foreign” language, providing credit towards a Regents diploma. Enroll today in the level 1 adult ASL classes, to be held on Mondays from 6:30 to 9 p.m. from Sept. 14 through Nov. 30. As with other languages, the deaf community, in response to cultural and technological change, is constantly introducing new vocabulary. Register today and become a part of this expanding community. The Hicksville Historical Society will welcome members of the Long Island Historical Miniature Collectors Society, a group of artists and modelers from the New York City and Long Island vicinity devoted to creating, painting, collecting, studying and displaying miniature figures, to its meeting. The history and the hobby of miniature modeling will be discussed. The meeting begins at 7:15 p.m. and will be held in the Hicksville Library’s Kenneth Barnes Community Room.
