On Friday, October 2 at 6:30 p.m. three high school students will watch as their event comes to life for the second year in a row. Four hilarious professional comedians will take the stage at the Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School for this special fundraising event called Stand-Up For a Cause. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island.
Stand Up For a Cause debuted in 2008 and raised close to $4,000 for RMH-LI. The event creators, Josh Seiden of Plainview, Jason Feldman and Matthew Melnyk from Old Bethpage, have volunteered their time at past RMH-LI fundraisers and are proud to support the House and its families through their own unique event.
“Originally we were looking for a way to show our community the importance of helping others and how enjoyable it could really be,” said Seiden. “We were truly amazed at the support we received in the previous year which made us even more determined to put together an even better event the second time around.”
All funds raised will benefit The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island ‘Share a Night’ program. Under this unique program, donations from corporations, foundations and individuals are used to maintain the cost of the day-to-day operation of the House. These funds help ensure that no family is turned away because of financial constraints.
The comedians performing on stage will be: Nick Cobb, who has been featured on MTV and has opened up for Dane Cook; Jeff Sussman, who has opened for Robert Schimmel; Raquel D’Apice, a hilarious up-and-comer from Brooklyn and Matt Little, a freelance writer for David Letterman. Prior to the merriment and laughter there will be an a capella group and a band engaging the crowd at 6:30 pm. Some of this year’s event sponsors include Petro Oil (a two-year top contributor), The Mednick Agency Inc. (Allstate Insurance Company) and Plainview’s Edible Arrangements.
Admission to the event is $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School is located at 50 Kennedy Drive, Plainview, NY 11803. For more information on the event, be sure to log on to www.standupforacause.webs.com or send an email to standupforacause@yahoo.com.
