Street Renaming in Honor of 9/11 Hero
Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilman Gary Hudes will be ceremonially re-naming Division Ave., at the intersection of Schoolhouse Rd. at 10 a.m. in honor of FDNY Firefighter Robert Parro, a 1984 graduate of Division Avenue High School. Robert died at Ground Zero in the line of duty on September 11, 2001.
Halloween House
You can help the Gomula family of Levittown scare off diabetes by visiting them any evening this month at 15 Lowland Rd., Levittown. The display is open for viewing 7 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 7 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, throughout October. It is closed during rain.

Dog Walkathon
Paws for Parkinson’s “Howl-O-Ween Dog Walkathon, “ presented by the American Parkinson’s Association. Activities include a comfortable one mile walk, Halloween Hounds costume contest, best canine trick competition, prizes, raffles, canine agility course, informational tables, refreshments and more. Bird Walk at Jones Beach
Join the South Shore Audubon Society on a bird walk at the West End of Jones Beach. The walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the northeast corner of the parking lot at Jones Beach West End #2. Cello Concert
Canadian cellist Soo Bae, winner of the 2005 Concert Artists Guild International Competition, will perform at the East Meadow Library at 2 p.m. Bae will replace soprano Sarah Wolfson who had to cancel her performance. In 2006, the Canada Council of the Arts awarded her first prize in its Instrument Bank Competition, resulting in a three-year loan of the ca. 1696 Bonjour Stradivari cello. Earlier that same year, she became the first Canadian ever awarded a prize at the Adam International Cello Festival & Competition in New Zealand. All are welcome to attend. Admission is free.

Tabla Players of India
The tabla is a popular Indian percussion instrument used in music of the Indian subcontinent and in Hindustani classical music. The concert at East Meadow Library at 2 p.m. will begin with Achyut and Tejas Tope of Miller Place, who are well regarded as teachers and performers. •Pet Loss Support Group. People who feel very sad about the loss or serious illness of their cat or dog can now come to a bi-weekly support group led by an experienced counselor in the conference room at Bide-A-Wee, 3300 Beltagh Ave., Wantagh. These sessions are open to the public; they are not restricted to Bide-A-Wee clients or adopters. The group facilitator is Medea Berkman, a pet loss group leader with many years of experience. She gently guides the healing process to help people come to terms with their feelings of sadness and loss. No fee, but all donations are gratefully accepted to help Bide-A-Wee provide for the animals in our care until we place them in loving homes.
