The Hicksville Fire Department is dedicated and efficient. This dedication comes from its members unselfishly serving and protecting their neighbors and community. The efficiency comes from its training, equipment and leadership.
Chief of Department Bob Lang has served as a chief officer in the Hicksville Fire Department for the last eight years. I have had the pleasure of serving on the board of commissioners with Chief Lang, the first two years in his position as 1st Assistant Chief, and the last two years as chief of department. Chief Lang is professional, knowledgeable, experienced and a common sense fire officer and administrator of the highest integrity.
Over the past several years a problem within Nassau County has grown to a crisis. This is due to insufficient Nassau County EMS protection for its citizens. Each year thousands of Nassau County residents will dial 911 for a county ambulance, with none available. These calls are then transferred to the local fire department for a response. Unfortunately, Hicksville has not been spared in this crisis. This year alone approximately 200 Hicksville residents will call 911 for an EMS county response, with none available. To respond to this crisis, and under Chief Lang’s direction, a new Fire-Medic program is being established within the Hicksville Fire Department. This program, once operational, will provide enhanced EMS protection for our community. The program is in its infancy. With Chief Lang elected to the board of commissioners he will be in a critical decision-making position to continue the work necessary to bring this protection on-line and fully operational, as soon as possible. And, as an active member in the department, with his leadership experience, he will be an important advisory voice serving on the Hicksville Board of Fire Commissioners for the next five years.
Please join me in voting for and electing Bob Lang, commissioner of the Hicksville Fire District on Dec. 8.
Bob Manson
Chairman
