Letter: Support for Single

I am so pleased to see that Harry Single is running for re-election as fire commissioner; his integrity, fair-mindedness, organization and attention to detail, along with his sincere love of our community have served us well for the past five years.

I’ve known Harry Single in many capacities for over 30 years and I can’t recall a solitary time that he said “no” when someone asked for help. Just look at his record: Hicksville Library Board, Hicksville Community Council Vice President, Hicksville Baseball Association Board, Hicksville Football Association Board, Hicksville Boys and Girls Club President, Midland Civic Association, Town of Oyster Bay Youth Advisory Board, Joseph Barry Knights of Columbus, Hicksville Lions Club … His concern for our community has earned him the respect of countless citizens and organizations.

Fundraising was always a struggle during my tenure as the Band Parent President for Hicksville High School; the economy wasn’t great and there were many times when requests for donations were rejected, but never from Harry. “Uncle Harry” was always there for the kids, and always there for our community. Harry didn’t wait for the phone calls, he made the phone calls, asking, “what do you need?, what can I do to help?” and I would smile whenever I heard that familiar voice. Whenever an event was happening in Hicksville, you could bet that Harry was somehow involved, volunteering his time.

Please mark your calendars now for Dec. 8; we don’t have television campaigns to remind us of this election but that doesn’t make it any less important. Our community is growing and flourishing, there are improvements everywhere we look; we need to re-elect Harry Single to assure all of us that our safety and protection is in the very best of hands.
