A commander sets the tone for his troops while a teacher sets the tone for the classroom and a pastor sets the tone for his congregation. A good leader sets the tone so even when not present, events run smoothly. Those involved know what is expected of them and are able to accomplish what is necessary in a positive way.
Now is the time in 2010 to set a positive tone for the fire department. It can only enhance firefighting and lifesaving activities. First and foremost there is a need to make right choices, take responsibility for all choices and, finally, zero tolerance for violence in the fire department.
Hopefully our newly elected fire commissioner will make these goals a priority as he has stated. Hicksville will be watching and waiting.
