The American Red Cross knows all too well the sacrifices that our military and their families make in defense of our nation. To help thank area service members, the Nassau Red Cross has launched Hockey for Troops, a program designed to provide free tickets to New York Islanders’ games.
“I don’t know that we can ever fully repay our service members for the hardships they endure,” said Frank Cassano, chief executive officer of the Nassau Red Cross. “But what we can do is provide them with a few hours of entertainment spent with their loved ones.”
Yet the Red Cross can’t provide the tickets on its own.
“The Islanders have provided us with a great discount on the vouchers, which is great,” said Cassano. “Now we are asking Long Island businesses and organizations to consider a variety of sponsorship opportunities to make this a reality.”
Levels include: Company Commander, at $3,000, provides ticket vouchers for 100 service members; an invitation for the purchaser to attend a game in a luxury suite; and 10 complimentary ticket vouchers; Platoon Commander, at $1,500, provides tickets to 40 service members; and 10 complimentary ticket vouchers for the purchaser; and Squad Leader, at $500, provides tickets to 12 service members; and four complimentary ticket vouchers for the purchaser.
All sponsorship levels include various recognition opportunities. If desired, members of the public can also donate individual vouchers at $30 each. For more information, visit www.nassauredcross.org and click on Hockey With Heart, or call 747-3500, ext. 215.
