The Hicksville Public Library’s Board of Trustees is seeking a candidate to fill an expected vacancy. To do so, the board is looking to appoint a candidate to fill the unexpired term of one trustee.
The person appointed to this position will be required to run in May 2010 – the next budget vote and trustee election – as well as in 2011, when the five-year seat is slated to expire.
Among the duties of a library trustee are the following: attendance at regular library board meetings, which are held the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m.; participation in the development of the annual library budget; monitoring the expenditure of budget funds in a fiscally prudent manner; examining the need for and approval of contracts to be entered into between thirds parties and the library; ensuring that the services provided by the library meet the needs of the public; representing the entire community without fear or favor; and being aware of the changing needs of the public.
There will be likely be more than one board meeting per month during labor negotiations, during library renovation discussions, etc.
