The MacArthur Lady Generals Junior Varsity Basketball Team is in the midst of another great season, currently holding an overall record of 11-1 going into the midterm break. While the Generals are studying hard for their tests and focusing on the “student” part of student-athlete, they are also working hard on the court in practices, eager to finish out a successful season by winning their last four games.
With only one loss to a tough and talented Massapequa H.S., the Lady Generals now prepare for their final games in hopes of defeating the Chiefs the second time around at home on Feb. 8. Feb.8 is also the date of our “Senior Night” for our varsity girls team and all are encouraged to come down and cheer on the Generals in their last regular season home game! Game time is 5:30 for JV, 7:15 for varsity.
The success of our athletes this year is attributed to their aggression on defense, speed, athleticism, and offensive skill that gels nicely as a unit when the Generals take the floor. Leading the Generals from the point guard position is Jenny Scro, whose speed and court sense gets her an average of three steals/four-and-a-half points per game. Freshman Courtney Noakes leads the team in baskets, averaging 8.4 points per game. Sophomores Jaclyn Todd, Christine Mancini and Brianna Santoro dominate the boards in rebounding and create a huge threat under the basket with their height and speed.
Amanda Gross and Sam DiClemente create an offensive threat with their deadly outside shot, while off the bench, Sam Sherman and Kristen Gay contribute tremendously at the back-up point guard position and guard spots. Jordan Carrillo, Nicole Wolfe and Taylor McCormick’s aggression on defense make the General’s team complete.
