Mckevitt Appointed to the Mental Hygiene Joint Budget Subcommittee
Assemblyman Tom McKevitt (R,C,I – East Meadow) has been selected by Republican Leader Brian M. Kolb (R,I,C – Canandaigua) to serve on the bi-partisan Mental Hygiene Budget Conference Committee. The purpose of budget conference committees is to work out the details in their specific budget bill after revenue has been agreed upon and distributed by the General Conference Committee.
“I am honored to be chosen to advocate on behalf of our most vulnerable population and will work to craft a budget that protects their needs,” said McKevitt. “I am looking forward to working with my colleagues in both houses of the Legislature in the hope of producing an on-time budget that rejects further tax increases, reduces spending and makes cuts to programs and services that affect the smallest portion of New Yorkers.”
Assemblyman McKevitt currently serves as the ranking minority member on the Mental Health Standing Committee, which has jurisdiction over legislation affecting programs that provide services, health care and treatment, and advocacy for individuals with various disabilities. The committee focuses on ensuring that individuals with a mental illness or a developmental disability are provided appropriate and necessary services, as well as protection from abuse or harm in institutional or community settings.
“Representing and advocating for New Yorkers with mental illness or developmental disabilities is an important task that this budget committee has been entrusted with. I will work together with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure that these New Yorkers receive the proper portion of the budgetary pie,” concludes McKevitt.
McKevitt Supports Girl And Boy Scouts
The Girl Scouts of America was founded on March 12, 1912 and recently celebrated its birthday. Each year the Girls Scouts celebrate Girl Scout Week which begins on Girl Scout Sunday and ends on Girl Scout Sabbath with its founding date taking place in the middle. The Girls Scouts are an important organization for young girls throughout the country today. The Girls Scouts help to build character and skills for girls to succeed in the real world while teaching them the importance of serving and helping others. Throughout the United States today 3.4 million girls and women are members with an alumni network of over 50 million American women which continues to grow.
Much like the Girl Scouts, the Boy Scouts of America is an important organization for young boys. The Boy Scouts of America is celebrating 100 years of scouting this year. For 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America have helped young boys through the United States become leaders who serve their communities. Assemblyman Thomas McKevitt supports the efforts of the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America who help inspire youngsters to become strong leaders who help in their communities through various services projects to make their world a better place.
