For the 17th Annual Year the Town of North Hempstead held its Women’s History Breakfast. An idea conceived by the North Hempstead Town Supervisor May Newburger.
At this event, even though May Newburger was unable to attend, North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman announced that she would be receiving a “lifetime achievement” award in honor of her efforts in honoring the women of North Hempstead.
This year the women honored included: Patricia Bruno Gold, Miriam Chatinover, Linda Cohen, Connie Dziomba, Yvette Edidin, Ann Forte, Marilyn Gottlieb, Debbie Greco Cohen, Carmen Krauss, Sandy Portnoy, Rose Romano, Louis Schaffer, Jonai Singh, Delores V. Smalls, Rita Tanski and Sally Wndkos Olds. All from different areas of the town, but all with basically the same background and goal, to help others.
The program was orchestrated and run by both Kaiman and town clerk Leslie Gross and they both did a marvelous job of keeping the program stimulating while moving it along.
Without a doubt the highlight of the event was the guest speaker Helen Halpin McCarney, Ms. Senior America of 2005. She took the microphone while wearing a silver crown and told jokes and gems of stories and concluded with belting out a song acapella. Such a delight.
