A 25-year-old Levittowner and speedster, Jodie Schoppman was a convincing repeat winner in the women’s division in the 33rd annual Nationwide 10K Run for ASPIRE held on the roads of Plainview and Old Bethpage on March 27. Schoppmann’s winning time of 36 minutes, 33 seconds was 31 seconds faster than her winning time of 37:04 in 2009.
Scoring as the second place woman overall in this year’s run was another superb Levittown athlete, 26-year-old Michele Henschel, who crossed the finish line at the H.B. Mattlin Middle School on Washington Avenue in Plainview in 39:51.
Still another Levittowner, 33-year-old Thomas Glenn scored with an award in the Nationwide Run for ASPIRE, taking home the third place award in the 30-34 age group with a time of 37:04.
John Pizzo, an 18-year-old Levittowner, scored second in the 15-19 age group with a time of 46:58.
Special thanks and congratulations to race Director Bob Windorf and the host Greater Long Island Running Club for another job well done, and to the very generous Tony Wiszowaty of Nationwide Insurance for continuing his support for this event again. The Town of Oyster Bay, under the leadership of Supervisor John Venditto, has been a very loyal supporter since the run’s inception. Diane Ramos and her team from the TOB Recreation Department once again put out an incredible effort to make this run one of Long Island’s finest community events.
As always, the entire net proceeds of the run are turned over to the ASPIRE program for the support and rehabilitation of young amputees, victims of sarcoma and traumatic amputations, and lots of young amputees were on hand to participate in the run once again this year.
