George W. Cutting Jr., of Oyster Bay and Homer, AK, died after a long illness on May 13, 2010. Born on July 13, 1932, the son of George W. Cutting and Mary Converse Cutting of Warrenton, VA, he graduated from Fessenden School, Brooks School and Yale University. A former stock broker and portfolio manager, he was an active volunteer for many nonprofit organizations including: Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Nassau County Chapter of the American Red Cross, The Nature Conservancy of Alaska, The Community Foundation of Oyster Bay, Youth and Family Counseling of Oyster Bay, Rotary Club of Oyster Bay and Pratt Museum of Homer, AK.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lucy Pulling Cutting; his children, George W. Cutting III of Glenwood Springs, CO, Lucy Cutting of Greenwich, CT, Cynthia Cutting Robinson of Moultonborough, NH, Susan Cutting of Belfast, ME; and five grandchildren. Also survived by his sisters, Martha MCDuffie of Bailey, CO, and Dorothy Cutting of Salt Spring Island, British Columbia; and those deceased, John P. Cutting, John A. Hinckley, Elizabeth Cutting Carrigan and A. Neville Cutting.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 20 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Church, Cold Spring Harbor. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory www.cshl.org or Pratt Museum www.prattmuseum.org.
