Free Workshop for Breast Cancer Patients
Belly Dancing. This captivating and beautiful art form, taught by a professional belly dancer, can be a refreshing alternative to traditional exercise. Creative Cups
The life-affirming art/fundraising event of the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program, is returning and people are invited to participate by creating an “art bra” to be auctioned off. Last year’s event brought in over 200 Creative Cups, ordinary bras that were transformed into works of art. They were created by artists, art students, children, breast cancer survivors and their friends and family members. Submitted creations must be received by Aug. 2, to be included in the auction/gala (March 15, 2011 at Adelphi University). Those wishing to create a bra are encouraged to sign up early, as entrants will be limited to 200. Creative Cups celebrates the lives of those living with breast cancer and those we have lost to this terrible disease. Through the Recovery International process, members learn to manage stress, panic, anxiety, depression, anger, irrational fears, phobias, compulsions, obsessions and other emotional or behavioral problems. Members also learn how to face and manage psychosomatic symptoms such as heart palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, sweats, fatigue, headaches, numbness, chest pressure and sleep problems. All group leaders are trained lay volunteers who have experienced some type of difficulty with an emotional problem and practice the Recovery International method of self-help.
