The Enterprise Pilot has been devoid of editorials for several weeks due to the absence of the editor due to health issues, for which we apologize. We enjoy communicating with the public on local issues. We don’t expect people to agree with us – in fact that is not the issue. We try to express an opinion that we believe is – more or less – a community view, sometimes one that is difficult to express in such a tight knit area.
Sometimes they express an idea we think it would be interesting to put before the public. [We should note we welcome your letters to the editor stating your views – as long as they are signed.]
One of the things we think we all agree on is about the wonderful service groups and organizations in the community. We had reason to avail ourselves of the East Norwich Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance to take us to the emergency room of Syosset Hospital for which we can’t say thank you enough.
The other is for the work of the Rotary Club that you will see detailed in this issue. They are doing great things across the community not only in giving of their time in service, but including the use of the money they raise via the Oyster Festival that is handled by the Oyster Bay Charitable Fund to improve the quality of life for local residents.
That includes their new program Rotary Rides! which may inspire other communities to help handicapped seniors get to needed medical services with the elimination of the MTA Able Rides. The Doubleday Babcock Senior Center already has a transportation system to get seniors to medical services but this will be for those who are handicapped and have different transportation needs.
This is truly a wonderful caring community, and as Gail Speranza, Doubleday Babcock Senior Center executive director said, is a great place for seniors to age at home. “This community is just the right size,” she said. It also has just the right size heart.

We have a great many people to thank for making this the great community it is. On behalf of everyone – thank you to all our caring residents for their wonderful work in making this a great place to – live, work, play – and make music – as Mr. Walker has said.
